Calculation methodology
We aim to publish the formula, input definitions, assumptions, units, rounding method, and applicable limits needed to understand each result. Calculation functions are kept separate from the visual interface and tested with manually checked fixtures, boundary cases, invalid inputs, unit conversions, shared URLs, printing, and responsive layouts as appropriate.
Passing automated tests does not prove that a tool covers every field condition. Each calculator therefore states its intended scope and directs readers to verify results before use.
Sources and code-based material
We prefer primary sources such as published standards, government or code-body material, and manufacturer documentation. When a calculator relies on versioned code data, editions are kept separately so they can be reviewed and corrected independently.
Building-code adoption and amendments vary by jurisdiction. A cited edition identifies the calculation basis; it is not a statement that the edition governs a visitor’s project or that the result satisfies local law.
Writing and review standards
- Write for the practical decision the reader is making and define specialized terms.
- Separate facts, assumptions, estimates, opinions, and professional requirements.
- Avoid invented credentials, fake testimonials, unsupported claims, and claims of hands-on testing that did not occur.
- Use digital drafting tools only as assistance; calculation behavior, safety limitations, and substantive claims remain subject to human review before publication.
- Review material changes to formulas, data, diagrams, safety guidance, and policy pages before release.
Corrections
Readers can report suspected errors through the Contact page. Reports are evaluated against the displayed assumptions, independent calculations, and the most authoritative available source. Substantive errors are corrected as promptly as practical and covered by regression tests when feasible.
Minor spelling, formatting, and clarity edits may be made without a public correction note. When a correction materially changes a calculation or safety conclusion, we will identify the affected tool and change in an appropriate release or page note.
Commercial independence
Advertising, sponsorships, free products, and affiliate relationships do not determine calculator formulas or passing results. Paid placements and material relationships will be labeled clearly near the relevant content. A reserved advertisement box is only a layout placeholder and is not a paid endorsement.
Update cycle
Tools are reviewed when a reported issue, source revision, code edition, dependency change, or new product condition makes review appropriate. Publication dates do not replace the visitor’s responsibility to verify the current code, product specifications, and local requirements.
